Welcome to my home on the net. I am an author and playwright. My first children's book was published back in the late 1980s and I have since produced picture books, collections of myths and legends, middle grade novels and early readers. I particularly like writing historical fiction and my latest books are set in Ancient Greece, the Golden Islamic Age and the Neolithic. In 2018, I wrote my first short story for adults, a Sherlock Holmes mystery called The Case of the Green Carnation. It was published in Sherlock Holmes' School for Detection, edited by Simon Clark.
I lived in London and Brighton for many years but now make my home in the seaside town of Scarborough, in North Yorkshire. It's the perfect home for an author, with lovely beaches, cafes to write in and the tastiest fish and chips in the world.
This year sees my first professional play staged at the world-famous Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. It's called Granny's Exploding Toilet and with nine songs, it is almost a musical.
My hobbies include cooking, collecting vintage books (especially old Puffins), going to the theatre and the cinema and, of course, reading.
I'm also passionate about travelling, both for work and inspiration. I regularly visit Greece [for the history and the amazing beaches], Turkey [for the amazing everything], Italy [for the food, the art, the architecture, the countryside and the ice-cream] and Austria [also for the food, but I love Vienna's architecture, puppet shows, palaces, free concerts and - Italian ice-cream. There are Italian ice-cream shops everywhere you look].
Recently I have also worked in schools further afield, in Jordan, Oman and Qatar. I loved meeting the international mix of children, discovering new food, authors and customs and just bringing the joy of writing and stories to new audiences.
