Welcome to my home on the net. I am a traditionally published children's author with books available in some twenty five countries. I love myths and legends but also detective stories, mysteries and adventures. My first book, a play called The Idiot King, was published by Samuel French in 1985. Since then I have written many kinds of books, including pirate stories, non fiction and more recently detective stories. I particularly like writing historical fiction and my next few books will be set in Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt and other places of historical interest.
I lived in London and Brighton for many years but moved up to Yorkshire some fifteen years. My current home is close to the sea in Scarborough, where I spend a lot of time writing on the seafront, drinking tea, trying not to eat too much cake and picking shells and pebbles on the beach.
My hobbies include cooking, collecting vintage books (especially old Puffins), going to the theatre and the cinema and, of course, reading. You can't be a writer without reading a lot.
I'm also passionate about travelling, both for work and inspiration. My favourite countries to visit are Greece [for the history and the amazing beaches], Italy [for the food, the art, the architecture, the countryside and the ice-cream] and Austria [also for the food, but I love Vienna's architecture, puppet shows, palaces, free concerts and - Italian ice-cream. There are ice-cream shops everywhere you look].
Recently I had the good fortune to visit schools in Jordan and Oman, both countries I instantly fell in love with and I'm hoping to go again one day.
