I have over thirty years' experience doing school and library visits as well as performing at literary festivals. I usually do three sessions a day but this is up for discussion with each school. I can also do an assembly to introduce myself to the school.

This is my most popular writing workshop where I get the children to plot a story from start to finish using my five-step method. We also choose engaging characters for our stories and find out how to use words to propel the action.

Suitable for Years 1 to 6, for one or two classes at a time.

Hooked on ancient myths and legends?  Find out how to write your own, adapting ideas and themes from ancient sources.  Turn yourself into a writing superhero by using my Theseus plot-maker.

Suitable for Years 3 to 6, for one or two classes at a time.

This is a workshop based on my book Firebird. I explore the themes, plot devices and props in the story to help children create their own folktale featuring magic creatures. The Literacy Tree have produced a Literacy Curriculum Planning Sequence for this. Have a look here.

Find out how you can turn small details of your life, things that happen to you or your friends and people you know into exciting plots and themes for your story. Got a mad gran, a dad over keen on gardening, a neighbour who hates snails with an insane passion? Turn life's challenges into story gold.

Suitable for Years 1 to 6, for one or two classes at a time.

Like mystery stories? Keen on detective fiction? Follow my seven-point plan to write a humdinger of a whodunnit. Create characters that readers will remember. I'll also give you tried and tested tips on how to use clues, red herrings and twist in the tales.

Suitable for Years 3 to 6, for one or two classes at a time.

My storytelling sessions are:

A tour around world using stories. The themes will be magic, folklore, giants, dragons, pirates and any topic your classes might be working on. I also show the children colour proofs of my retellings and take q&a about the process of making a book.

Suitable for Reception to Year 6.

Are you doing Ancient Greece this year? I have a storytelling session taking in some of the great myths as well as stories from every day life in Classical Greece. I will focus on my bestselling book The Orchard Book of First Greek Myths and my Ancient Greek Mysteries series from Bloomsbury.

Suitable for Years 4 to 6.

A session of magic stories big on audience participation. At the moment this will focus on my next picture book for Orchard called The Unicorn Prince, which is based on an ancient Scottish fairytale. At the end I will show the children the colour proofs featuring Jane Ray's illustration and talk them through the book-making process.

Suitable for reception to Year 4

A session of spine-tingling spooky stories from around the world, especially for Years 5 and 6. Meet ghosts, zombies, and vampires. I very often team this session up with a writing workshop creating original ghost stories.

Suitable only for Years 5 and 6

A storytelling session of stories from the Islamic world, including magic stories, funny ones, wise fool anecdotes and featuring my next mg novel for Bloomsbury, The Golden Horsemen of Baghdad. This session can also be teamed up with a writing workshop for KS2.

Suitable for Years 2 to 6.

"Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you for your visit on Thursday! Year 5 and 6 loved talking to you, and the feedback from parents and children at the after-school storytelling was also superb. We don't often invite parents to our author events, so it's great to build those links."

Jonathan Bentham, Rufford Park Primary, Yeadon. April 2017

Thank you again for the marvellous day . The children and staff were really enthused .

Kate Isaacs, St Margaret Clitherow Catholic Primary School, February 2016

Dear Saviour, Thank you so much for coming to our school! The staff and children couldn't stop singing your praises and were so impressed with you. I am glad you had a good day and appreciate all the input you gave in encouraging our pupils to read and write. Once again thank you and take care!

Thank you so much for a wonderful day. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed listening to you and your amazing recount of Billy's Magic Tail.

The workshops were very informative and pitched at exactly the right level for the junior classes. I know they learnt a lot and enjoyed the learning experience at the same time.   We very much hope that you will be able to visit our school again in the future.
